Marseille have become the latest club to show serious interest in signing SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, Footynaija reports.
The 24-year-old is expected to leave Freiburg before the transfer window closes, with the Bundesliga club willing to listen to offers worth around €20 million after bringing in Mio Backhaus as his replacement. Marseille now join a growing list of clubs chasing his signature, while Juventus continue to keep an eye on the Nigerian-eligible goalkeeper despite focusing on other transfer targets.
Atubolu is believed to prefer a move to the Premier League and has already turned down approaches from Hull City and Coventry City. Aston Villa and Bournemouth are also following his situation closely as he considers his next step. His decision to miss Freiburg’s pre-season training camp has only increased speculation that a transfer is close.
The goalkeeper’s future is also attracting attention in Nigeria. Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has long admired Atubolu and wants him to strengthen competition in goal alongside Stanley Nwabali. The Nigeria Football Federation has monitored him since early 2025 because of his Nigerian father.
However, convincing Atubolu to represent Nigeria remains a difficult task. He has repeatedly said his dream is to play for Germany and even received his first senior call-up in 2025. The good news for Nigeria is that he has not yet played a competitive match for Germany, meaning FIFA rules still allow him to switch to the Super Eagles if he changes his mind.
