Nigeria defender Caleb Okoli is pushing for a return to Serie A after Leicester City’s relegation, with Torino and Monza among the clubs interested in signing the 24 year old centre back this summer, Footynaija.com reports.
Okoli joined Leicester from Atalanta in 2024 in a deal worth around €14 million plus add-ons, but the Foxes’ disappointing campaign has left him looking for a fresh challenge. His representative has now confirmed that both player and club are open to discussing a move if the right offer arrives.
Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, agent Alessandro Barison said Leicester understand Okoli’s desire to compete at a higher level despite being happy at the club.
“We are waiting for Leicester to get back to us. Some calls and proposals have already arrived. We’ve got to figure out the best way forward for him and the club, so we are evaluating the situation.”
Barison added that the former Atalanta defender believes he is ready to return to top flight Italian football.
“Caleb is happy at Leicester, but also will not deny he wants to play in a more important league, and Leicester City understand that ambition. They know he deserves a different journey and are ready to let him leave, whether it is on loan or a permanent sale.”
Although the agent did not name clubs, reports in Italy have linked Okoli with Torino and newly promoted Monza as both sides look to strengthen their defence before the new Serie A season.
The defender remains under contract at Leicester until 2029, meaning any move will depend on reaching an agreement that satisfies all parties. Leicester are understood to be open to either a loan or a permanent transfer after investing heavily in the Italy youth international.
Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, Okoli is still eligible to represent the Super Eagles at senior level despite featuring for Italy’s youth teams. A return to Serie A could boost his chances of regular top flight football as he continues to weigh up his international future.
