Victor Osimhen’s dream of playing in the Premier League could face a problem that goes beyond his transfer fee, Footynaija reports.
The Super Eagles striker has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham this summer, while Chelsea and Manchester United continue to monitor developments around the 27-year-old. Arsenal have reportedly discussed his availability with Galatasaray, while Tottenham boss Roberto de Zerbi is believed to be an admirer of the Nigeria international.
But a report by Afrik-Foot points to Manchester City’s 2025 signing of Rayan Cherki as a possible warning for Osimhen. City paid an initial £30.45m for Cherki, who signed a contract until 2030.
Cherki had produced 12 goals and 20 assists for Lyon in 44 games before the move. Yet, according to the report, City’s recruitment process went beyond those numbers. The club also examined his character, relationships and background before approving the deal.
That could matter in Osimhen’s case because his career has included several public confrontations. Hard to ignore is his 2024 social media dispute with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George and incidents involving opponents after his move to Galatasaray. These claims are part of the report’s argument, not evidence that a Premier League club has rejected Osimhen on character grounds.
There is also a much clearer financial barrier. Galatasaray paid Napoli €75m for Osimhen in July 2025 and gave him a four-year contract. His package includes €15m in guaranteed annual salary, plus bonuses and image-rights payments.
That deal runs until June 2029. Galatasaray can therefore demand a huge fee closer to €150m than €100m.
Osimhen has the goals to attract England’s top clubs. The question is whether any club will pay the price and accept the risks that come with such a major investment.
