Anthony Dennis has been at the centre of growing transfer interest this summer, but his next move could now take an unusual turn after Al Jazira stepped up their pursuit of the Nigerian midfielder, Footynaija.com reports.
The 22-year-old has attracted attention after establishing himself as one of Göztepe’s most reliable players in Turkey. Dennis joined the club’s academy in 2023 after developing at HB Academy Abuja and soon worked his way into the senior side. He helped Göztepe secure promotion to the Turkish top flight and has since become an important part of their midfield.
His performances have also brought him closer to the Super Eagles. Dennis was previously invited to Nigeria’s senior squad, although he is yet to make his competitive debut for the national team. He played 31 league matches for Göztepe last season and scored three goals as he continued to build his reputation.

That progress has made Dennis one of the Nigerian midfielders attracting serious attention this summer. Galatasaray, Coventry City, Anderlecht and several Bundesliga clubs have all been linked with him at different stages, while Göztepe have been open to a sale as the midfielder enters the final year of his contract.
Al Jazira talks advance for Dennis
According to an exclusive report from Tribuna.com, Al Jazira have now made progress in talks to sign Dennis. The Emirati club have identified the Nigerian as a target and negotiations between the two sides are moving in a positive direction.
The discussions could also involve a player going the other way. Göztepe are interested in Al Jazira left-back Richard Akonnor, meaning the clubs could potentially find themselves discussing two separate moves at the same time.
Akonnor, 22, was born in Ghana but represents the United Arab Emirates and has been with Al Jazira since 2022. He plays mainly as a left-back and has already featured for the UAE senior team.
It is not yet clear whether Dennis and Akonnor will become part of the same deal. The report says the possibility remains under discussion, with negotiations still ongoing.
