Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has shed light on the actual circumstances surrounding his controversial departure from Turkish Super Lig outfit Fenerbahce last summer, Footynaija.com reports.
Reluctant to lose Osayi-Samuel, whose contract at the time was into its final months, on a free transfer, Fenerbahce opened renewal talks with the Nigeria international in hopes of securing his future and probably moving him on for a profit later on.
However, negotiations broke down as both parties failed to find common ground amid media reports that Osayi-Samuel had made inconceivable contract demands during talks with the club’s hierarchy.

Explaining his side of the story in a recent interview, the former QPR star said; “Many journalists in Turkey make up stories to grab attention, but for me, and the club knows this, I never asked for a contract.
“What really happened is that at the start of the season, Mario Branco offered me a contract, and we accepted. However, at that time, I was changing my agent. Because I remember before the season, a journalist tweeted that I was asking for money, and I had no idea about it, I didn’t know anything.
“Then I saw a message from my former agent showing that he had discussed this with the journalist behind my back, and that really made me angry. Seeing that, I wanted to leave my agent and agree with a new one.
“But I didn’t want to sign a deal with him because I didn’t want him to take a portion of the money or anything. I agreed with Mario Branco that I would sign the deal when I found a new agent, and I think the rumors started from there.”

Osayi-Samuel ended up leaving Fenerbahce as a free agent at the end of last season, and after another controversial transfer saga involving the Yellow Canaries’ local rivals Besiktas, he sealed a return to England with Birmingham City.
