Victor Osimhen’s future has been thrust back into the spotlight after Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez publicly admitted that he is ready to leave the Spanish club, Footynaija reports.
The Argentine attacker, who arrived from Manchester City in a deal worth £81 million in 2024, has enjoyed a productive spell under Diego Simeone. Alvarez registered 20 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances during the 2025/26 season but Atletico ended the campaign without a major trophy.
However, following Argentina’s 2-0 World Cup win over Austria on Monday night, the 26-year-old revealed that he has already discussed his future with club officials and believes a departure is the best solution.
“I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with and the best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream,” Alvarez told SkySports.
“It’s not the time to talk about this, but I also can’t hide it. I try to be an honest person.”
The striker’s comments could immediately intensify speculation about Atletico’s next move in the market.
Osimhen, who starred for Galatasaray last season and remains one of the most prolific forwards in Europe, has frequently been linked with the Madrid club as Simeone searches for long-term attacking firepower.
Interest in Alvarez from clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal could trigger a bidding war worth well over €150 million. Such a sale would provide Atletico with the financial muscle required to revisit a move for Osimhen, whose valuation and wage demands make him an expensive target.
Alvarez also admitted that there is no clear timeline for resolving his situation.
“It’s not known when it will be resolved,” he added.
Even if Atletico step up their pursuit, they are unlikely to get a free run at the Nigerian international. Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal continue to monitor Osimhen closely, while PSG and Juventus remain attentive to developments surrounding the Galatasaray star.
