Beşiktaş have been dealt a big injury blow after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi suffered an ankle ligament injury, Footynaija reports.
Ndidi’s injury comes just days before their UEFA Europa League second qualifying round tie against Danish club Midtjylland.
The Turkish side confirmed the news on Tuesday after Ndidi underwent an MRI scan at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital. The scan showed damage to the ligaments in his ankle, and the club said its medical staff have already started his treatment.
In a statement, Beşiktaş said Ndidi injured his ankle and medical tests confirmed a ligament problem. However, the club did not reveal how long the Nigerian midfielder will be out.
The injury is a major concern for coach Vincenzo Italiano, who was hoping to have the experienced Super Eagles midfielder available for the important European fixture.
Since arriving at Beşiktaş last summer, Ndidi has been a key player with his strong tackling, calm passing and leadership in midfield. His performances have made him one of the first names on the team sheet.
The setback also comes at a time when the 29-year-old continues to be linked with a possible move away from Turkey. Reports have suggested clubs in Saudi Arabia are monitoring his situation, while Beşiktaş could be open to offers as they try to improve their finances.
Ndidi’s priority, however, will be recovering as quickly as possible so he can return in time to help both Beşiktaş and the Super Eagles during the 2026/27 season.
