Femi Azeez’s move from Millwall to Brighton was meant to open a new chapter after an impressive season in the Championship, but the Super Eagles winger is still waiting for his competitive debut as he adjusts to the demands of his new club, Footynaija.com reports.
The 25-year-old joined Brighton on a four-year contract after the club completed his signing from Millwall on transfer deadline day in September. He finished the 2025/26 season with 11 league goals and eight assists for the Lions, helping them reach the Championship play-offs.
His start to the new campaign, however, was interrupted before the move to Brighton was completed. Azeez was forced off after around 30 minutes of Millwall’s opening league game against Bristol City on August 15 after feeling discomfort in his hamstring. Millwall won 2-0, but his early withdrawal raised questions about his fitness.
Azeez has since taken a step towards a return by featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly during the international break. Brighton are managing his workload carefully as he gets used to the club’s training demands and the physical level of the Premier League.
Hurzeler explains Azeez’s situation
Speaking ahead of Brighton’s Premier League trip to Sunderland on Saturday, head coach Fabian Hürzeler said the winger experienced minor problems during the week after playing in the friendly.
“He played in a friendly game and he had some minor issues this week,” Hürzeler said, as reported by The Argus.
The Brighton boss stressed that the latest issues should not be treated as a fresh injury, although the club still needs to assess how Azeez responds to the demands placed on him.
“It’s not an injury but there are some small, minor issues and, again, he’s a player who is quite sensitive,” the German said.
