Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong believes England will have just enough to beat Norway when both teams meet in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Footynaija.com reports.
England booked their place in the last eight after a hard-fought 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico in the Round of 16, despite finishing the match with 10 men following Jarell Quansah’s red card.
Norway also impressed in the previous round, knocking out Brazil with a 2-0 victory inspired by Erling Haaland, who scored both goals.
Speaking to Al Jazeera ahead of Saturday’s clash, Troost-Ekong admitted Norway have the quality to trouble England but backed the Three Lions to progress.
“I think that England probably has just an edge over them,” the former Nigeria international said.
Troost-Ekong also expects an entertaining contest, with Harry Kane and Haaland likely to play leading roles for their respective teams.
“For Kane and Haaland, I think it’s going to be a real battle.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a draw or goalless, but I think England will surely edge it.”
The quarter-final brings together two of Europe’s strongest teams at this year’s tournament. While England are chasing another World Cup title, Norway are looking to continue their impressive run after eliminating one of the pre-tournament favourites.
Troost-Ekong has been part of Al Jazeera’s World Cup coverage throughout the competition, offering his views on some of the biggest matches and key talking points.
His prediction now adds to the build-up for what promises to be one of the standout quarter-final ties, with England aiming to overcome Haaland’s Norway and move one step closer to the semi-finals.
