Terem Moffi has completed his move to Hamburger SV as the Super Eagles striker begins a new chapter in Germany, Footynaija reports.
The 27-year-old has joined from French club Nice for an initial €2m fee. The deal could rise to €2.5m if Hamburg meet the agreed add-on conditions.
According to the Bundesliga official platform, Moffi has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Bundesliga club until 2029. He will wear the No. 9 shirt.
The move ends his spell in France after more than three years at Nice. He scored 24 goals in 72 games for the club after joining from Lorient for more than €20m in 2023.
Moffi spent the second half of last season on loan at Porto. He scored twice in 15 appearances and also scored against VfB Stuttgart in the Europa League.
His arrival comes after Hamburg lost Robert Glatzel to Wolfsburg in June. Glatzel had been one of the club’s main attacking players during their return to the Bundesliga.
Hamburg see Moffi as a direct option through the middle. His strength, movement and ability to hold up the ball are expected to give coach Merlin Polzin more choices in attack.
The Nigerian will also compete with Patson Daka, who joined Hamburg as a free agent in July. Daka offers pace and movement, while Moffi can provide a more physical presence against defenders.
Hamburg’s sporting staff also believe Moffi’s international and European experience can help the team and younger players.
He will not have long to settle in. Hamburg face Verl in the DFB Cup on Monday before opening their Bundesliga campaign away to Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
Moffi’s first task will be to earn a regular starting place and build an understanding with Daka and the attacking players around him.
After scoring 35 goals in 90 games for Lorient and 24 for Nice, Moffi now has a new challenge. Hamburg will hope their new No. 9 can deliver the goals needed to stay competitive in the Bundesliga.
