Slavia Prague have confirmed that Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has successfully undergone surgery after suffering an Achilles tendon injury while on international duty with Nigeria, Footynaija.com reports.
The Czech champions also revealed that the centre-back is expected to spend approximately three months on the sidelines as he begins his rehabilitation programme.
Ogbu sustained the injury during a training session ahead of Nigeria’s international friendly against Portugal, forcing him to miss the encounter after an active international window with the Super Eagles.
The 26-year-old featured in Nigeria’s Unity Cup matches against Zimbabwe and Jamaica before starting the Super Eagles’ 2-2 friendly draw against Poland. However, he was withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Semi Ajayi.
Slavia Prague reveal Igoh Ogbu recovery timeline
Providing an update on the defender’s condition, Slavia Prague confirmed that Ogbu recently underwent a successful operation at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice.
“During the international break, Igoh Ogbu ruptured his Achilles tendon. In recent days, he underwent surgery at the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice, and the operation was successful,” the club said in a statement published on social media.
“The Slavia defender will be out of training for approximately three months.
“Get well soon, you’ll come back stronger, Igy.”

The injury comes as an unfortunate setback for Ogbu, who has enjoyed a steady rise in recent months both at club level and with the Nigerian national team.
Having established himself as a key figure in Slavia Prague’s defence and earned increased involvement with the Super Eagles, the former Lillestrøm defender will now turn his attention towards recovery as he looks to return to action as quickly as possible.
Although the injury will keep him out for a significant period, Slavia Prague’s projected three-month recovery timeline offers encouragement that Ogbu could be back on the pitch before the end of the year if his rehabilitation progresses smoothly.
