Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has expressed optimism over his recovery after undergoing successful surgery in Prague following the injury setback he suffered while on international duty with Nigeria, Footynaija.com reports.
The Slavia Prague center-back had to withdraw from the Super Eagles squad ahead of Wednesday’s international friendly against Portugal after sustaining an injury during training.
Following his return to the Czech Republic, Ogbu underwent further medical assessments with his club before doctors recommended surgery to address the problem, bringing an abrupt end to what had been a promising international window for the 25-year-old defender.
Speaking to Footy-Africa in a recent interview, Ogbu admitted his disappointment at being unable to feature against Portugal but remained upbeat about his recovery.

“It is unfortunate that it happened because I wanted to be part of the game against Portugal, but life is not always predictable,” the Nigerian defender said.
“The boys gave their all, but unfortunately we lost the game. I wish I could have been there to help them, but it was not to be.
“Injuries, though unfortunate, are part of football, even if no player likes to be injured. It is what it is, and I have to face it.
“The operation went well and I hope to start rehabilitation soon. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, I will be back for the start of next season. That is my target and I am working towards it.”

The operation, carried out on Ogbu’s left Achilles tendon, was successful, with Slavia Prague confirming that the defender will spend approximately three months on the sidelines as he begins his recovery process.
The injury comes at a frustrating time for the former Flying Eagles defender, who has enjoyed an impressive year for both club and country.
Ogbu played an important role in Nigeria’s Unity Cup triumph in London and also featured in the Super Eagles’ 2-2 draw against Poland earlier this month.
At club level, the 25-year-old made 20 appearances for Slavia Prague last season, scoring once and helping the Czech champions retain their 1. Liga crown.
