Bursaspor coach Mustafa Er has provided a positive update on Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho after the Nigerian exited Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Ankara Keciorengucu with an injury concern, Footynaija.com reports.
Iheanacho scored Bursaspor’s third goal shortly after half-time before being substituted in the 68th minute, raising concerns about his condition despite his team’s commanding position in the contest.
The 29-year-old had been influential in the encounter, producing another important contribution as Bursaspor came from behind to secure an impressive away victory in the Turkish First League.
However, Er moved to ease concerns after the match, explaining that the forward’s problem was minor and that the decision to withdraw him was a precautionary measure.

“Kelechi has a minor problem. We didn’t want to push him too hard. He wanted to continue, but we didn’t want to take any risks. We were already leading 4-2 anyway, we had secured the score,” Er said, according to quotes revealed by Bursa Hakimiyet.
The Bursaspor manager’s comments suggest the club opted to protect the Nigerian rather than risk aggravating the problem, particularly with the outcome of the match already looking favourable.
Iheanacho’s goal against Keciorengucu extended his remarkable run of scoring in consecutive league appearances to 12 games, but the immediate concern will be his fitness and availability for Bursaspor’s upcoming fixtures.
The victory also lifted Bursaspor to the top of the Turkish First League standings, giving the club further momentum in their promotion push as they await further clarity on the condition of their in-form Nigerian forward.
