Chelsea legend Frank Lampard considered for shock managerial role in Italy’s Serie A

Frank Lampard is being considered as a surprise candidate for a managerial role in Serie A, with speculation linking the former Chelsea and England star to the job at AS Roma, Soccernet.football understands.

Lampard, who last managed Chelsea as a caretaker in 2023 before the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, has been without a club since that brief return, which saw him win just one of 11 games. His challenging stint at Everton before that also impacted his standing, with Lampard securing a win rate of only 27.3% across 44 games.

Despite recent setbacks, the 46-year-old still boasts notable achievements, including guiding Derby County to a Championship play-off final, leading Chelsea to a top-four Premier League finish, and helping Everton avoid relegation.

However, with his recent track record, Lampard may need to keep an open mind about potential opportunities if he is serious about re-establishing himself as a manager.

According to Italian outlet GazzettaDelloSport, Lampard is on Roma’s shortlist to replace Ivan Juric, who took charge in September.

Juric has struggled to find consistency, achieving only four wins and two draws in his first 10 games, leaving Roma in the bottom half of the Serie A table.

Amidst the club’s underwhelming start, Roma’s owners, the Friedkin Group, have reportedly been advised by contacts within Everton to consider Lampard.

The search for a new manager is said to also include Paulo Sousa, Roberto Mancini, and Claudio Ranieri.

Sousa, currently at Shabab Al Ahli in the UAE, has won 11 of his 14 games, while Mancini recently left his position with the Saudi national team. Ranieri, who retired in May after departing Cagliari, could also be a possibility if Roma look to bring the experienced Italian back to the dugout.
