Nigeria will face Zimbabwe in their next 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, and after a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali, the Super Eagles will be looking to build momentum, Footynaija.com reports.

Zimbabwe’s Warriors are not pushovers, but Eric Chelle’s team has enough quality to get another big result.

Here are five ways Nigeria can overcome Zimbabwe and boost their chances in Group C.

5. Start fast and take early control

The Super Eagles showed against Rwanda how dangerous they can be when they start with high energy. Victor Osimhen’s early brace in Kigali gave Nigeria the platform to control the match. Against Zimbabwe, an early goal will settle nerves and force the Warriors to chase the game.

Nigeria’s quick attackers, including Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon, must look to unsettle Zimbabwe’s defence in the first 20 minutes just like they did in Kigali.

4. Dominate the midfield

Zimbabwe’s midfield, led by players like Marshall Munetsi and Richard Hachiro, can be physical and hard-working. Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi will need to dictate the tempo and avoid sloppy passes. Ndidi’s ability to break up play and Iwobi’s creativity can help the Super Eagles control possession and open up spaces in Zimbabwe’s backline.

3. Be solid at the back

Although Zimbabwe has struggled for goals, they can be dangerous from set-pieces. The Super Eagles defence, marshalled by William Troost-Ekong and Calvin Bassey, must stay switched on. Nigeria’s defenders will also need to avoid unnecessary fouls around the box and handle aerial threats. Keeping things tight at the back will allow the team to focus on attacking.

2. Use wide areas

The Warriors’ full-backs often leave space behind them. Nigeria should take advantage with Moses Simon and Lookman stretching the play. Bright Osayi-Samuel can also overlap and deliver dangerous crosses. Wide play could open up Zimbabwe’s compact defence and create scoring chances for Osimhen or Tolu Arokodare.

1. Take chances

Zimbabwe have proven tough to break down, as seen in their goalless draw with Rwanda. The Super Eagles must not waste opportunities. Osimhen is in top form with 26 goals for Galatasaray this season, and he must lead by example. Nigeria will need to be clinical in front of goal and kill the game off early.

Nigeria has what it takes to beat Zimbabwe, but they must stay focused and stick to their strengths. If they start fast, control the midfield, defend well, use the wings, and finish their chances, the Super Eagles can secure another big win and keep their World Cup hopes alive.
