5. Cyriel Dessers (Rangers)

Dessers has experienced a rollercoaster season with Rangers, initially struggling to find consistent form and game time before playing his way back into the starting XI at Ibrox. Despite his efforts, he has yet to make a significant impact in the Scottish Premiership this term. Dessers’ current form may place him lower in the pecking order for national team selection.

4. Gift Orban (Hoffenheim)

Orban’s mid-season transfer to Hoffenheim has been impactful. Since joining in January 2025, he has scored four goals in eight Bundesliga appearances. The 22-year-old’s adaptability and quick integration into the German league highlight his potential value to the Super Eagles both at present and in the future.

3. Umar Sadiq (Valencia – Loan)

Umar Sadiq’s loan to Valencia has marked a resurgence in his career. After recovering from a significant injury while at Real Sociedad, Sadiq has found form with Valencia, scoring three goals in his last six La Liga matches.

Notably, his recent back-heel equalizer against Osasuna has been hailed as a ‘goal of the season’ contender. Sadiq’s revitalization could be pivotal as the Super Eagles look to get their campaign back on track.

2. Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen)

Boniface has been a key player for Bayer Leverkusen since joining from Union St. Gilloise in 2022. In the 2023/2024 season, he scored 14 goals, playing a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title win.

This season, he has continued his impressive form, with 7 goals in 10 league starts. The 24-year-old’s ability to score, assist and link up play position him as a strong contender to lead the Super Eagles’ front line.

1. Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray – Loan)

Osimhen’s loan move to Galatasaray has revitalized his career. The 26-year-old forward has been instrumental in the Turkish club’s dominance in the Super Lig, contributing significantly in their bid to mount a successful title defense this season.

Osimhen has netted 16 goals and registered four assists in the Turkish top-flight, totaling 22 goals and 5 assists across all competitions. His relentless work ethic and fighting spirit, complimented by his prolific form make him an obvious candidate for the job against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Who should lead Eric Chelle’s attack?

Considering current form and impact, Osimhen stands out as the prime candidate to lead Nigeria’s attack. His consistent goal-scoring and playmaking abilities have been pivotal for Galatasaray this season. Boniface also presents a strong case with his contributions to Bayer Leverkusen.

Sadiq’s recent resurgence offers an alternative attacking option, while Orban’s recent performances at Hoffenheim demonstrate his potential. Dessers, despite showing glimpses of his capabilities at times this season, will need to significantly up his game to be considered for the starting role.

Ultimately, Chelle’s decision will hinge on tactical considerations and the specific demands of the upcoming matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

However, based on current performances, Osimhen should without doubt be the man spearheading the Super Eagles’ attack.
