Femi Azeez is closing in on his Brighton debut after Fabian Hurzeler revealed that the new Super Eagles winger could be available for Sunday’s trip to Coventry City, giving the Nigerian another chance to take the next step in a rise that has taken him from non-league football to the Premier League and international football, Footynaija.com reports.
Azeez joined Brighton from Millwall on a four-year contract after an outstanding 2025/26 Championship campaign in which he scored 11 goals and provided eight assists, helping the Lions reach the play-offs. His performances also earned him places in both the PFA and EFL Championship teams of the season.
The move came only months after Azeez made his Super Eagles debut. The 25-year-old scored twice in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup in May before setting up a goal in the 3-0 victory over Jamaica four days later. As a result, he went from a new face in the national team to a player with two goals and an assist from his first two appearances.

Azeez did not move to Brighton as a fringe Championship player looking for a way into the top flight. He arrived after becoming one of Millwall’s main attacking outlets, particularly from the right wing, where he could cut inside onto his left foot, deliver crosses and attack the box.
His Brighton debut was delayed by a minor hamstring problem, ruling him out of the club’s meeting with Leeds last weekend. Hurzeler has now provided a more positive update, saying he hopes Azeez will be an option for the Coventry game.
“Also regarding him, I hope he will be an option. He will definitely change the squad. Hopefully everything is fine and hopefully he will be an option for the weekend,” the Brighton manager said via BBC Sport.
