Former Trabzonspor striker and football analyst Mehmet Yılmaz believes the Turkish club may have little control over Paul Onuachu’s future if the Nigerian striker decides to leave this summer, Footynaija reports.
Onuachu has grown into becoming Trabzonspor’s most important attacker since joining permanently from Southampton last year. The Super Eagles star enjoyed a brilliant first season, scoring 22 league goals and providing two assists in 30 matches to finish as the Turkish Super Lig’s top scorer.
His outstanding form has reportedly attracted interest from several clubs in Saudi Arabia. Although Trabzonspor are said to have turned down offers worth between €20 million and €25 million because they want to keep their leading striker, Yılmaz says the final decision could rest with the player.
Speaking about the transfer rumours, he told takagazete: “However, if Onuachu wants to leave, there’s nothing anyone can say to the player. If the player wants to leave, the management’s options are limited.”
With questions still hanging over Onuachu’s future before the start of the 2026/27 season, Trabzonspor have already started looking at possible replacements. One of the players linked with the club is fellow Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare.
However, reports suggest Arokodare is not interested in moving to Turkey this summer, leaving Trabzonspor with a difficult task if they eventually lose the striker who led their attack so successfully last season.
