Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Alloy Agu has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make better use of every FIFA international window by arranging quality friendly matches ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, Footynaija.com reports.
The former Nigeria goalkeeping coach believes regular high-level friendlies will help head coach Eric Chelle build a stronger and more settled Super Eagles squad after the disappointment of missing the last two FIFA World Cups.
According to Agu, consistent matches against quality opposition will allow the coaching crew to improve team chemistry, test tactical ideas and give emerging players valuable international experience before competitive fixtures.

“The NFF should take advantage of every FIFA window by arranging quality international friendlies. The more the players play together, the stronger the team will become,” Agu said in a report by Sports 247.
He added that friendly matches should not only be seen as preparation for major tournaments but also as an opportunity to evaluate new players without the pressure that comes with competitive games.
Agu insisted that the absence of a few established stars during international friendlies should not be seen as a problem, stressing that experienced players already understand the team’s style and can easily slot back into the squad when needed.
“Even when some regular players are unavailable, it’s an opportunity to assess other options. The experienced players already understand the system and can always fit back into the team,” he added.
Since taking charge of the Super Eagles, Chelle has introduced many new faces while trying to build continuity within the national team. The Franco-Malian coach has repeatedly spoken about creating a squad that can compete in major competitions.
Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups has increased calls for better long-term planning, with many former internationals urging the NFF to give the current coaching crew the support needed to build a competitive team.
