Rangers have reportedly intensified their interest in Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Alebiosu following the Nigerian’s impressive performances in the EFL Championship last season, Footynaija.com reports.
The Scottish Premiership giants are expected to strengthen at right-back this summer after the departure of long-serving captain James Tavernier and Alebiosu is now emerging as one of their leading targets.
The 24-year-old enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign at Blackburn after arriving from Belgian Pro League side Kortrijk last summer. Despite Rovers’ struggles during the season, Alebiosu established himself as one of the club’s most reliable performers.
The Super Eagles defender made 41 Championship appearances, scoring once and providing five assists while showcasing his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to SportsBoom, Rangers are currently making significant progress in their pursuit of the versatile full-back and are expected to have little difficulty agreeing personal terms with the player.
The Light Blues view Alebiosu as an ideal candidate to fill the void left by Tavernier, whose departure has created a need for reinforcements on the right side of defence.
Ryan Alebiosu attracting interest from Serie A

Rangers are not alone in the race for Alebiosu’s signature as Serie A outfit Genoa remain keen admirers after seeing an approach rejected during the January transfer window. Meanwhile relegated Premier League side West Ham United are also monitoring his situation.
Blackburn are understood to be open to selling Alebiosu this summer, although the Championship club are expected to demand a fee in the region of £3 million to £5 million for the defender.
A move to Ibrox could prove attractive for Alebiosu, who previously gained experience in Scottish football during a spell with St Mirren. The transfer would also see him link up with fellow Nigerian defender Emmanuel Fernandez at Rangers.
