Nigeria’s Flamingos will face Venezuela in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after both teams secured victories in the last 16, Footynaija reports.
The encounter is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m. Nigerian time at Pitch 4 of the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Salé, Morocco.
Nigeria booked their place in the last eight with a 2-1 victory over Mexico, while Venezuela produced one of the biggest upsets of the knockout stage by defeating Germany 1-0.
Oluebube Umejiaku opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the 40th minute before Mary Dunstan doubled their advantage in the 71st minute. Mexico scored deep into stoppage time, but Nigeria held on to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
The result continued Nigeria’s recovery from a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Poland in their opening group match. They responded with a 2-0 win over Puerto Rico before beating two-time defending champions North Korea 3-1 to finish second in Group B with six points.
Venezuela, meanwhile, endured a difficult group-stage campaign, losing to France and Japan either side of a 3-2 victory over Zambia. They raised their game against Germany, scoring in the fifth minute before defending resolutely to eliminate a side that had won all their group matches.
Sunday’s encounter will be the first meeting between Nigeria and Venezuela at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos will also be chasing a return to the semi-finals for the second time in their history. Nigeria reached the last four in 2022 after beating the United States on penalties in the quarter-finals. They eventually finished third, defeating Germany in another shootout after a 3-3 draw.
Victory over Venezuela would take Nigeria one step closer to repeating that historic achievement and keeping their hopes of winning the tournament alive.
