Spain legend Andrés Iniesta has backed Victor Osimhen as the right player to lead Barcelona’s attack after Robert Lewandowski’s move to Chicago Fire, Footynaija reports.
The former Barcelona midfielder believes the Super Eagles striker would be an ideal fit for Hansi Flick’s team, especially with Atlético Madrid unwilling to sell Julián Álvarez, who has been one of Barcelona’s top transfer targets.
Speaking to NTV Spor, Iniesta said:
“Lamine Yamal is a fantastic player, but I wouldn’t prefer him playing as a number 9. If Ferran Torres leaves, I would strongly advise Deco to sign a striker. I don’t think Atletico Madrid will let Julian Alvarez go.
“I would suggest they sign Victor Osimhen. He’s a fantastic goalscorer and one of the best replacements for Robert Lewandowski.”
Osimhen has strengthened his reputation after another impressive season with Galatasaray. The Nigerian, who has made 52 appearances for the Super Eagles, scored 15 league goals and provided five assists in 22 matches as the Turkish club won the 2025-26 Süper Lig title despite him missing games with a forearm injury.
The 27-year-old also became the fastest player to score 50 goals for Galatasaray, reaching the milestone in only 59 matches. His season included a title-clinching brace against Antalyaspor and another goal in a 3-0 derby win over Fenerbahçe after returning from injury.
Despite Iniesta’s support, a move to Barcelona remains difficult. Osimhen is reportedly asking for a net salary of around €15 million per season, while Galatasaray are said to value him between €70 million and €75 million.
Those figures are beyond Barcelona’s current financial limits, leaving Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur among the favourites to sign the Nigerian before the transfer window closes.
