Victor Osimhen has undergone successful knee surgery, with Galatasaray targeting November 24 for the Nigerian striker’s return to action, Footynaija reports.
The Turkish champions confirmed on Saturday, November 7, that the 27-year-old underwent an arthroscopic procedure at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital following an injury sustained during their 2-0 Champions League victory over VfB Stuttgart.
An MRI scan revealed a loose fragment inside Osimhen’s left knee, prompting the club’s medical team to recommend surgery. Club doctor Yener İnce performed the operation, with Galatasaray confirming that the procedure was successful.
The striker will now undergo rehabilitation, with his progress assessed daily. He is expected to miss Saturday’s league match against Amed SK and the upcoming fixture against Samsunspor.
Galatasaray are reportedly hoping to have their leading scorer fit for their Champions League clash with Aston Villa on November 24. However, his return will depend on how quickly he recovers, as the club are keen to avoid rushing him back.
Osimhen’s injury is also a setback for Nigeria ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania on November 13 and 17.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will now have to find alternatives to lead Nigeria’s attack in the absence of the country’s second all-time highest goalscorer.
