Victor Osimhen will undergo knee surgery after Galatasaray confirmed that the Nigerian striker will be out of action for an indefinite period, Footynaija reports.
The Turkish champions announced on Friday, November 6, that the 27-year-old had been ruled out after medical tests showed he needed an operation on his knee.
Osimhen will miss Galatasaray’s upcoming match against Amedspor and is also set to sit out Nigeria’s two 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania.
The injury comes just days after the striker raised concerns about his fitness during Galatasaray’s league match against Konyaspor.
Osimhen was seen limping after the game, but he recovered in time to feature against VfB Stuttgart in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.
However, further medical checks revealed that his knee problem required surgery, forcing him out of action once again.
Super Eagles face Osimhen absence against Tanzania
Nigeria will be without their leading striker when they take on Tanzania in a crucial AFCON qualifying double-header.
The Super Eagles will host Tanzania in Uyo on Friday, November 13, before travelling to Dar es Salaam for the return leg on Tuesday, November 17.
Osimhen’s absence is a serious blow for Nigeria, who need positive results from both matches to improve their position in Group L.
The Super Eagles currently trail group leaders Guinea-Bissau and will have to find a way to get the job done without their most influential centre-forward.
The former Napoli striker has been a key player for Nigeria, and his absence leaves Eric Chelle with a major selection problem ahead of the two fixtures.
Galatasaray have confirmed that Osimhen will undergo surgery but are yet to disclose how long he will be out or when he is expected to return.
