Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has reportedly made it clear that he would welcome a move to Spanish champions Barcelona this summer, Footynaija reports.
According to reports, the 27-year-old has informed Barcelona through his representatives that he is available if the club decides to strengthen its attack after Robert Lewandowski’s departure. Barcelona have been trying to sign Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, but that deal remains difficult because Atlético are unwilling to negotiate.
Osimhen, who is also on the radar of Arsenal, is believed to have spoken with Atlético Madrid in case Álvarez eventually leaves for Camp Nou. However, Barcelona’s biggest challenge is not the player’s interest but the money involved.
The Nigerian striker is said to be asking for a yearly salary of around €15 million, a figure that is currently beyond Barcelona’s wage budget. Reports suggest he could lower his demands if the chance to play at Camp Nou becomes a reality.
A transfer fee is another obstacle. Galatasaray recently rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s reported €55 million bid and are unwilling to sell Osimhen for less than €75 million, the amount they paid Napoli to sign him.
Since arriving in Turkey, Osimhen has been one of the league’s top performers. He has scored 41 goals in 52 Turkish Super Lig matches over two seasons, bringing his total career tally to 201 goals, including 35 for the Super Eagles.
The striker currently earns about €21 million each year at Galatasaray through his salary, image-rights payments and loyalty bonuses, making any move to Barcelona financially challenging.
