Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations have been overshadowed by allegations of theft after Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo claimed cash was stolen from the wallets of several players during the team’s training camp in Morocco, Footynaija.com reports.
The Super Falcons have been based at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca since last week as they fine-tune preparations for the upcoming tournament. However, Okoronkwo took to social media to allege that money went missing from multiple players’ hotel rooms while the squad was away at training.
“This hotel Marriott in Casablanca just stole about a lot of people’s money from their wallet!” Okoronkwo wrote.

The forward later corrected the amount she claimed was missing, revealing that her financial loss was greater than she had initially believed.
“Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700, not $500 USD,” she added.
Okoronkwo also alleged that members of the hotel’s housekeeping staff were responsible for the missing money and expressed disappointment with the response from hotel officials after the incident was reported.

“The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money.
“We started talking to them and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful.”
According to Okoronkwo, more than $1,200 in cash is believed to have gone missing across several members of the squad. She claimed Rasheedat Ajibade lost $200, Joy Omewa $120, while Osinachi Ohale and Halimatu Ayinde were each allegedly missing $100 from their wallets.
Neither the Nigeria Football Federation nor the Marriott Hotel has publicly commented on the allegations. Despite the off-field distraction, the Super Falcons have continued their preparations for the tournament.
Justine Madugu’s side boosted their confidence with a 2-1 friendly victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars on Thursday, with Okoronkwo scoring the decisive goal, and will now turn their attention to Tuesday’s opening WAFCON fixture against tournament debutants Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat.
