Monza are moving closer to signing Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, with talks between the club and Inter Milan said to be making good progress ahead of the new Serie A season, Footynaija reports.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that both clubs are discussing a permanent deal, but Inter want to include a buy-back clause. That would give the Serie A champions the chance to re-sign the 21-year-old in the future if he continues to improve.
The transfer interest comes after Akinsanmiro’s move to Pisa unexpectedly broke down. Pisa had agreed to make his loan move permanent by activating a €7.5 million purchase option, but the deal failed because of a problem during the final paperwork process.
Inter now believe the setback has worked in their favour. The club reportedly now values the former Remo Stars midfielder at around €10 million after an encouraging season in which he played 24 league matches for Pisa. Although the club was relegated, Akinsanmiro earned praise for his calm passing, strong work rate and mature displays in midfield.
Monza, who secured promotion back to Serie A after finishing third in Serie B last season, see the Nigerian as a key addition to strengthen their squad. However, they are not alone, with Bologna and several Bundesliga clubs also keeping tabs on him.
Akinsanmiro joined Inter from Nigerian side Remo Stars in 2023 and recently signed a contract extension until 2029.
