Samuel Kalu has attracted fresh attention from Turkey just weeks after Botev Plovdiv moved to secure his future, with scouts from Turkish clubs reportedly watching the former Super Eagles winger in Bulgaria, Footynaija.com reports.
Kalu ended the 2025/26 season with his career moving in a more positive direction after joining Botev Plovdiv in 2025. He made 26 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring three goals, and his performances were enough for the club to extend his stay.
Botev announced on July 9 that Kalu had signed a new contract until 2029, confirming their desire to keep the Nigerian after interest in him increased during the previous campaign. The club said several teams had shown interest after the first half of the season, with that interest intensifying after the 2025/26 campaign ended.

The 29-year-old has also started the new season regularly for Botev, featuring in all five of their league matches so far. He has one goal and one assist, including a goal in the 3-2 win over Spartak Varna on August 10.
Turkish clubs monitor Kalu
According to recent reports, scouts from clubs in Turkey have been in Bulgaria to watch Kalu, with the interest reportedly growing after the conclusion of last season.
The development comes shortly after Botev tied the Nigerian down to a new long-term contract. His deal now runs until June 2029, giving the Bulgarian club a strong position over his future if the Turkish interest develops into a formal approach.
Kalu has already shown that he can attract attention through his performances. He scored twice in Botev’s 5-0 victory over Spartak Varna in April, while he also provided an assist in their 2-1 win over Ludogorets earlier in the year.
