Galatasaray new boy Rafael Leao has revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen played a role in his decision to join the Turkish champions after the pair held talks before his transfer, Footynaija.com reports.
Leao has completed his move to Galatasaray after choosing the Turkish giants despite interest from Premier League side Aston Villa. The Portugal international will now link up with Osimhen, who he previously faced during their time in Serie A when the Nigerian represented Napoli and Leao starred for AC Milan.
Despite being on opposite sides during their battles in Italy, the pair have developed a close friendship away from the pitch, and Leao has now disclosed that they spoke before he agreed to move to Istanbul.

“We had a meeting with Osimhen before the transfer. He’s a very good friend of mine,” the Portuguese star said, via Forza Cimbom.
“Now we’re together, we’ll do good work, we’ll achieve beautiful things, we’ll achieve big things for Galatasaray!
“We want to become champions, we want to rise high in Europe.”

The arrival of Leao adds another explosive attacking option to a Galatasaray side that has already enjoyed considerable success with Osimhen leading the line.
The Nigerian striker initially joined the club on loan in 2024 before making his move permanent last summer in a deal worth €75 million, becoming the most expensive signing in Turkish football history.
Osimhen has since helped Galatasaray win three trophies, including back-to-back Super Lig titles. He has also started the new campaign in fine form, netting a brace against Corum and Erzurumspor each in his opening two league appearances.
