As preparations gather pace for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendly against Poland, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has welcomed a strong contingent of players to camp in Warsaw, Footynaija reports.
A total of 18 players had checked into the team’s base by Monday evening, giving the coaching staff an encouraging start ahead of Wednesday’s encounter. Among the notable arrivals were midfield regulars Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, while towering striker Paul Onuachu was also present as training sessions got underway in the Polish capital.
The first workout of the camp saw Chelle take charge of 16 players on the pitch, with more members of the squad expected to join before the match. Goalkeepers Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho and Arthur Okonkwo are already in camp alongside defenders Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Zaidu Sanusi, Igoh Ogbu and Emmanuel Fernandez.
Raphael Onyedika and Tochukwu Nnadi bolster the midfield options, while attacking players Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Akor Adams and Rafiu Durosinmi have also linked up with the squad. Youngster Abdullahi Ibrahim later arrived, further strengthening the group.
Nigeria head into the fixture in positive spirits after a successful run in recent outings. The Super Eagles defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 before producing another impressive display to beat Jamaica 3-0 and retain the Unity Cup in London.
However, the squad will be without some of its biggest stars. Former African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman is unavailable due to personal reasons, while Victor Osimhen will miss the trip because of club commitments. Despite those absences, Chelle will be encouraged by the growing numbers in camp as Nigeria continues its build-up to the Poland test.
