Victor Osimhen has heaped praise on Galatasaray teammate Aleksey Batrakov, admitting he would have been jealous if the young midfielder had joined another club this summer, Footynaija reports.
The Nigerian striker spoke after scoring twice to inspire Galatasaray to a 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Fenerbahçe in Monday’s Intercontinental Derby at RAMS Park.
Osimhen, who has since come under attack from Fenerbahçe, struck in the 29th and 44th minutes to give the Turkish champions a decisive first-half advantage. Fenerbahçe fought back after the break, but Galatasaray held on to claim a crucial victory over their Istanbul rivals.
While Osimhen took centre stage with his goals, Batrakov also impressed with his work in midfield, helping Galatasaray move the ball forward and create opportunities against their rivals.
The Russian playmaker has made a strong impression since joining the club this summer, and Osimhen believes his talent and willingness to learn could make him an important figure at Galatasaray.
“Batrakov is a very unusual, incredible player. An incredible person. He’s trying to learn everything about the country and Galatasaray. He’s trying to get to know Galatasaray’s legends,” Osimhen said per Futbol Arena.
“It’s been less than 2 months since he arrived, but it feels like he’s been playing here for 2 years. I’m trying to learn Batrakov’s game. I’ve watched Batrakov’s matches before.
“This is important to understand each other well on the field. We’re trying to create a different setup. If he had gone to another club, I would have been jealous. Hopefully Batrakov continues like this.”
Galatasaray retained top spot on the Super Lig table after their win over Fenerbahçe, two points ahead of second-placed Amed SK.
