Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh believes Morocco missed a golden opportunity to claim all three points against Brazil in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Footynaija reports.
The former Juventus and Ajax midfielder argues that the Atlas Lions lacked the type of attackers who could turn dominance into goals.
Morocco impressed for long periods in the Group C clash at New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, taking the lead through Ismael Saibari before Brazil fought back to earn a 1-1 draw thanks to Vinicius Jr’s equaliser.

The North Africans created enough chances to trouble the five-time world champions but failed to make the most of them. Despite registering 14 attempts on goal, only three tested the Brazilian goalkeeper, showing the lack of precision in front of goal that ultimately cost them victory.
Reflecting on the contest, Oliseh praised Morocco’s organisation at both ends of the pitch and suggested that players with the attacking qualities of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman would have punished Brazil more effectively.
“Impressive performance by this Moroccan side, defensively and offensively well structured. Had this team had Victor Osimhen or Ademola Lookman-like players versus Brazil, they could have won by three goals to one at worst,” Oliseh posted on X.
The former Nigeria midfielder also felt Brazil showed signs of vulnerability despite salvaging a point.
“Brazil looking deceptive and thank God they had Vinícius Jr and Raphinha. I loved the belief and evolution from the Moroccans,” he added.
Morocco’s attention now turns to their next Group C fixture against Scotland at Gillette Stadium on June 19.
