Romanian Superliga side Universitatea Cluj have announced the signing of versatile Nigerian footballer Friday Adams on a free transfer ahead of the 2026-27 season, Footynaija.com reports.
The 23-year-old joins the White and Blacks following the expiration of his contract with fellow Romanian club FC Botoșani, bringing an end to a three-year spell during which he established himself as a reliable performer in the country’s top flight.
Universitatea Cluj confirmed the deal in an official statement on their website, revealing that an agreement had already been reached with the player several months ago.
“Friday Adams (23 years old) completes the very active transfer market of the ‘students’. The versatile Nigerian footballer reached an agreement with our club back in January,” the club announced.
The move marks another significant step in Adams’ steady rise through the ranks of European football.
Who is Friday Adams

Born in Kaduna, Nigeria, Adams began his football development at Ikon Allah Kaduna before continuing his progression at FDC Vista, where his performances attracted attention from clubs abroad.
His first taste of senior football came in Armenia with FC Noah, whom he joined in 2022. During his lone campaign with the club, Adams made 35 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and one assist.
His displays earned him a move to Romania in 2023, where he signed for FC Botoșani and quickly adapted to the demands of the Superliga.
After featuring in 23 matches during his debut season, Adams cemented his place as a key member of the squad, registering 31 appearances the following campaign before adding another 27 outings across all competitions in the recently concluded season.
Over the course of his stay at Botoșani, the Nigerian amassed more than 80 appearances and built a reputation as a dependable option capable of operating in multiple positions.
At Cluj, Adams is expected to strengthen competition on the right flank while also providing cover in a variety of defensive and midfield roles, adding further depth to a squad looking to build on its recent progress in Romanian football.
