Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Andy Johnson has urged the Baggies to go all out in ensuring the renewal of Super Eagles striker Josh Maja’s expiring contract, Footynaija.com reports.

West Brom confirmed in May that Maja had been offered a new deal, but there has been no official announcement regarding whether the 27-year-old has accepted the offer or plans to seek a new challenge elsewhere this summer.

Maja endured a frustrating campaign in front of goal last season as the Baggies battled to preserve their Championship status with the Nigerian striker finding the net just four times in 40 league appearances.

However, three of those goals came during a crucial unbeaten run that helped West Brom pull away from relegation trouble, prompting renewed belief that the striker could still have an important role to play at The Hawthorns.

As uncertainty continues to surround Maja’s future, former West Brom midfielder Andy Johnson has made no secret of his desire to see the Nigerian remain at the club.

“Would I like Josh to stay? Of course I would,” Johnson told Express and Star.

“He links up the play better than anyone at the football club, between the midfield and the strikers. His touch nine times out of ten is sensational; he can flip balls in behind.

“He really does spot it. If he gets a partnership with a winger who stands the ball up for him, he can attack it, and he’ll get goals.”

Despite his struggles in front of goal last season, the former Sunderland forward remains one of the most technically gifted attackers at the club and has previously demonstrated his ability to deliver consistently in the Championship.

During the 24/25 campaign, Maja scored 12 goals in 26 league appearances before injuries disrupted his momentum, highlighting the level of performance West Brom would hope to see on a regular basis should he commit his future to the club.

For now, however, the striker’s next move remains undecided, with both player and club facing an important decision before the end of the month.
