Brighton goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie earned special praise from Arsenal manager Renee Slegers after another impressive performance helped Brighton & Hove Albion secure a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in the Women’s Super League on Wednesday night, Footynaija reports.

The Nigeria international produced several important saves at Broadfield Stadium as Brighton stretched their unbeaten run in the league to five matches. The result also represented the club’s longest unbeaten spell in the competition since at least the 2011-12 season.

Nnadozie was once again one of Brighton’s standout performers against top opposition. The former Paris FC goalkeeper frustrated Arsenal throughout the contest with her sharp positioning, calm handling and quick reactions inside the penalty area.

She first denied Caitlin Foord with an excellent fingertip save before reacting quickly during a dangerous set-piece involving Lotte Wubben-Moy.

Brighton took the lead shortly before half-time through Fuka Tsunoda, but Arsenal eventually found an equaliser in the second half when Frida Maanum scored for the visitors.

Despite Arsenal’s attacking pressure, Nnadozie remained composed and continued to protect Brighton’s advantage for long periods before the Gunners finally levelled.

Speaking after the match, Slegers admitted her side struggled to take advantage of spaces behind Brighton’s defensive line because of Nnadozie’s awareness and decision-making.

“Brighton always come out very convinced and with a lot of intensity,” she told the BBC. “It is also about the decisions we make on the pitch. It is finding the balance and building partnerships over the pitch across the season so you can make changes and it doesn’t effect the team.

“There were opportunities in behind but also Nnadozie did well defending that space, so you need a lot of detail and quality in execution.”

Brighton manager Dario Vidosic also praised his players after the result.

He said: “In the first half, I was really proud of the girls. They were terrific. In the second half we knew they could inject a lot of quality, but we could too and in the end it was a good draw for both teams.”

Vidosic added: “We played some really good football, controlled the game and looked the better team.”

Nnadozie will aim to produce another excellent display when Brighton face Liverpool in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final clash.
