Arsenal are on the verge of winning the Premier League as well as UEFA Champions League and former Super Eagles defender Kingsley Obiekwu believes it’s one key aspect of their game that has brought them this far, Footynaija.com reports.

The Gunners, who have been one of the most impressive sides across Europe’s top five leagues this season, currently hold a five point lead at the top of the Premier League table with only two games left to play, albeit Manchester City have a game in hand.

Mikel Arteta’s side will also be playing in the Champions League final, reaching this stage for the first time in twenty years as they look to deliver European football’s biggest prize to the Emirates for the first time in the club’s 139-year history.

Speaking about Arsenal’s season in a recent interview with Complete Sports, Obiekwu noted that the defensive astuteness of the North London club is providing them with a solid platform to thrive across other areas of the pitch.

“I think Arsenal’s run this term, as was the case last season, has revolved around their defence,” the former Go Ahead Eagles defender said. I didn’t play for the London club during my career but, from close observation, I think the club has improved tremendously since last season.

“They are top of the EPL table with two or three games to go. They are also in the UCL final where they will meet PSG. Their defence has been key to this and could still come to the fore in the UCL final against PSG.

“They score goals and still defend very well. It is like Jose Mourinho’s era at Chelsea FC. Mourinho believed that if his team scored a goal, they could defend it until the end. Chelsea were able to win several titles with that approach.

“Arsenal have displayed this quality consistently and I think they can do it again. They play well, they score goals and still defend very well. This has worked for them and I can see it happening again.”

Arsenal will be hoping to head into the UEFA Champions League final at the Puskas Arena in Hungary on May 30 as crowned champions of the Premier League.
