Even clubs from England’s Premier League have been left surprised by the financial power behind Victor Osimhen’s move to Turkey, according to one of Galatasaray senior officials, Footynaija reports.
Vice-president Abdullah Kavukcu revealed that Andrea Berta was stunned by the scale of the agreement that secured the permanent signing of Osimhen from SSC Napoli.
Osimhen completed a permanent transfer to Galatasaray after an explosive loan spell in Istanbul. Despite interest from several Premier League clubs and teams in Saudi Arabia, the Turkish champions activated the Nigerian striker’s €75 million release clause to keep him at the club.
The agreement reportedly carries a total financial commitment worth about €159 million over four years. Osimhen is believed to earn €15 million annually, alongside loyalty bonuses and image-right payments.
Kavukcu said the numbers attracted attention across Europe, including from Arsenal.
“I wouldn’t sell him for 150 million euros, but it’s a matter for our president to decide,” he told HT Spor via habersarikirmizi.
“When you sell him, you also need to find a replacement player. That’s very important.
“The Arsenal sporting director came here recently and even he was surprised that we were paying these amounts.”
Galatasaray’s determination to keep the Nigeria international has been strengthened by his impact both on and off the pitch. On Saturday night, Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray recovered to beat Antalyaspor 4-2 and secure another Turkish Super Lig title in front of their home supporters.
The striker has become one of the biggest stars in Turkish football since arriving in Istanbul. Kavukcu said the club continues to benefit commercially from Osimhen through sponsorship and advertising agreements.
“Osimhen will continue. We expect to generate approximately 22 million euros from it,” he said.
“We also have three advertising deals with Victor. We receive 2 million euros from each of them for advertising shoots.”
Osimhen’s performances have matched the investment. The Super Eagles forward has scored 61 goals and provided 16 assists in only 75 appearances for Galatasaray. He also became the fastest player in the club’s history to reach 50 goals.
Those numbers, combined with his growing commercial value, explain why Galatasaray are resisting interest from some of Europe’s wealthiest clubs.
