Former Super Eagles forward Mohammed Gambo always believed in the innocence of Amas Obasogie despite the goalkeeper’s recent suspension by Singida Black Stars over match-fixing allegations, Footynaija.com reports.
Obasogie’s initial three month suspension lasted less than a couple of weeks before Black Stars reinstated him. The Tanzanian outfit revealed that internal investigations found no trace of deliberate misconduct from the goalkeeper, with the incidents under scrutiny deemed to be “technical errors”.
Reacting to the development, Gambo said that he was always certain of Obasogie’s innocence, insisting that the errors in question, while disappointing, were blunders that any other goalkeeper in the world could’ve made.

“When I saw the initial news and the videos that were attributed to his suspicion of involvement in match-fixing, I knew he was innocent,” Gambo exclusively told Footy-Africa.
“Anyone could have made those mistakes. It is part and parcel of the game, and even though it looks bad, in my opinion, it was an error any goalkeeper could have made.
“I am happy he has now been cleared, as such allegations are very heavy and not to be played with. I have known Amas for a while and personally, I did not think he would do such a thing. He is a very professional player and a good person for that matter.
“With his innocence proven, I pray he gets his shirt back in the team and starts playing football again. I am very happy all of this is over and he can once again concentrate on his career.”
Obasogie will now be looking to put this episode behind him and work his way back into contention for Singida Black Stars. The former Bendel Insurance goalkeeper has also issued an apology to the club and promised the address the weaknesses in his game.
