German football legend Manuel Neuer has finally spoken out about his successor, Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, after announcing his retirement from international football, Soccernet.football reports.

Neuer, who was Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper for over a decade, had long held the number one spot ahead of Ter Stegen, leaving the Barcelona star as second choice for many years.

However, with Neuer’s retirement, Ter Stegen is now set to take over the role as Germany’s undisputed number one.

Reflecting on his former teammate, Neuer recently addressed Ter Stegen in an interview, offering words of encouragement.

Speaking to MundoDeportivo, Neuer said, “All the best, of course. Not just for him but for all the other goalkeepers. I always hope we have strong goalkeepers. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone, including Marc.”

For years, the relationship between Neuer and Ter Stegen had been marked by competition, with both vying for the top spot in Germany’s goalkeeping hierarchy.

Although the rivalry never escalated into public conflict, it was well-known that the two were fierce competitors. Neuer’s dominance during their time together saw him firmly established as Germany’s first-choice keeper, leaving Ter Stegen to patiently wait for his opportunity.
