Pep Guardiola has hinted at the possibility of signing a new contract with Manchester City, Soccernet.football reports.

The Spanish coach’s current deal ends next summer, and after leading City to a fourth successive Premier League title in May, it seemed like the next season might be his last.

However, on Friday, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager suggested he might stay longer at the Etihad, potentially extending his tenure into a 10th year.

It is news that will not delight many Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United fans, with the continued presence of Guardiola likely to mean reduced chances of wrestling the league title away from Man City.

Speaking during the club’s pre-season tour in New York, Guardiola addressed his future on the eve of City’s friendly against AC Milan at Yankee Stadium.

“When I’m leaving, I will say I’m leaving, but I didn’t say that,” said Guardiola, who has led City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and their first Champions League, among other honours.

“We will see what happens. But I will not rule it out absolutely to extend my contract. I would love to stay because I would love to stay,” he added.

Guardiola emphasized the importance of making the right decision for himself, the club, and the players, noting that nine years at the same club is a long time.

He also commented on the team’s continuous effort and success over the years, saying, “Still they run like they ran for eight years, it doesn’t matter the competition, it doesn’t matter the tournament, and this is what I have to see.”

Regarding a potential return to America next summer for the proposed 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, Guardiola said, “I would love to, I would love to. Yeah, I would love to.”

Guardiola also addressed rumours about goalkeeper Ederson moving to the Saudi Pro League. He expressed his desire for Ederson to stay, highlighting the Brazilian’s importance to the team’s success and his role in the locker room.

Guardiola added: “I wish with the bottom of my heart Eddie will continue with us.

“I would love him to stay.

“I cannot imagine our processes succeeding these last seasons without him. He is an important figure in the locker room.”

Manchester City will continue their pre-season tour in the United States, with upcoming matches against AC Milan, Barcelona, and Chelsea.
