Former QPR defender Joel Lynch believes Eberechi Eze can secure his place in England’s final squad for Euro 2024, Soccernet.football reports.

The Crystal Palace forward is currently in the provisional squad and has the potential to impress England manager Gareth Southgate.

Lynch, who played with Eze at QPR, recalled struggling against him in training sessions.

Eze’s performances at St George’s Park could solidify his spot as the England squad prepares for the tournament. Southgate named a 33-man provisional squad, with seven players to be cut before the team heads to Germany.

Eze’s journey to the top hasn’t been easy. In 2017, he was loaned to League Two side Wycombe Wanderers by QPR. Lynch remembers his remarkable transformation upon returning.

“He was a brilliant player before he went but when he came back he was just a different animal,” Lynch told BBC Sport.

“It was just mad. I don’t know what happened to him but when he came back he was unbelievable, just a completely different player.

“Every bit of his game was better. He literally came back our best player. He was miles above the rest really. The way he carries himself is perfect. If any young lad coming through the game wants to look at a player it would be him, he’s the prime example of how to be a professional. He’s a class act.”

Eze ended this season strongly, with nine goal contributions in 12 Premier League games under new Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner. At 25, he aims to add to his two England caps and secure a spot on the plane to Germany.

Reflecting on training sessions, Lynch added, added: “I just wouldn’t go near him.

“He’d just do some madness and try and nutmeg me.

“Before the start of games, where everyone is giving each other high fives, I’d go up to him and say, ‘Mate, score a couple now so we can all go home. Just win us the game please’.

“He was that good. I actually thought at the time he could literally just win us the game. The only time I watch the Premier League now is to watch him play.”

Eberechi Eze left QPR in 2020 and has since been a standout player for Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
