Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has issued a strong response to Rwanda skipper Djihad Bizimana, who suggested the Amavubi can neutralize Nigeria’s attacking firepower in Friday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Footynaija.com reports.

Speaking ahead of the match, Bizimana downplayed Nigeria’s offensive threat, citing Rwanda’s defensive resilience during the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles, despite boasting attacking stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Boniface, have struggled against Rwanda in recent meetings.

During the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, Nigeria was held to a 1-1 draw in Kigali before suffering a shock 2-1 defeat in Uyo. These results have given Rwanda confidence heading into this fixture, but Troost-Ekong remains unfazed.

“Starting off, I think we have, maybe, one of the best attacking players (forwards) in the world, not just in Africa,” the former Watford defender said in his pre-match press conference.

The Super Eagles captain also acknowledged the challenges of away fixtures in African qualifiers but made it clear that Bizimana’s remarks would not shake Nigeria’s focus.

“I think every team in Africa is difficult to play against away from home. We respect Rwanda, we prepare for them, so I am happy to hear they believe they can handle our team. If that’s their preparation, we will see tomorrow in the game,” he added.

Nigeria, currently fifth in Group C, is under pressure to secure a victory and keep its World Cup qualification hopes alive.

Head coach Eric Chelle will be relying on his star-studded attack to make a statement and break down Rwanda’s resistance.

With both teams fired up, Friday’s showdown promises to be a gripping contest as the Super Eagles seek redemption and Rwanda aims to prove their defensive credentials once again.
