Serie A giants ‘table’ loan bid for Dani Olmo amid Barcelona registration saga – report
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

AC Milan have reportedly tabled a loan bid for Barcelona star Dani Olmo, potentially offering a temporary solution to the Spanish giants as their registration battle with La Liga drags on, Soccernet.football understands.

Barcelona have struggled to register Olmo and Pau Victor with La Liga for the second half of the season due to financial constraints. Initially, they used a temporary loophole related to Andreas Christensen’s injury to register both players until December 31, 2024.

However, La Liga’s regulations prevent re-registration of players within the same campaign. The Blaugrana have appealed to a local court and now plan to approach Spain’s Higher Sports Council, seeking temporary registration. As it stands, neither Olmo nor Victor can play for Barcelona this season.

Corriere della Sera reports that AC Milan wants to secure Olmo on a short-term loan until the summer, enabling Barcelona to register him for the 2025/2026 season after meeting La Liga’s strict 1:1 financial regulations.

This deal presents a potential win-win scenario in an otherwise difficult situation as Milan, currently struggling to keep up with Serie A’s top six, risk missing out on European football next season unless they strengthen their attack, which has performed below par so far.

Reports widely indicate that Olmo has the right to terminate his Barcelona contract due to the current circumstances and leave as a free agent to join another club. However, the Spain international has reportedly made it clear that he has no intention of taking that route.

MARCA reports that while no formal offer has made its way to Olmo, the 26-year-old would turn down any that do because he still has faith in president Joan Laporta and hierarchy to figure things out.

The problem with Barcelona’s approach of attempting to force Olmo’s registration through the courts is that the process could take longer than just a few weeks. If they fail in their latest legal battle with La Liga, the Euro 2024 winner would be forced to sit out the rest of the season.
