Trabzonspor star Metehan Mimaroglu has highlighted the importance of Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu after the Nigerian featured prominently in the Turkish side’s opening-day draw against Kasımpasa, Footynaija.com reports.
Trabzonspor began their new Trendyol Super Lig campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kasımpasa, with Mimaroglu providing an assist on his debut for the club.
The 30-year-old played a huge role in creating several opportunities for Trabzonspor and explained after the game why he is keen to see Onuachu occupy the penalty area whenever possible.

“I said it in the locker room before the match, I always want Paul to be there. Our coach says the same thing,” Mimaroglu said, as quoted by Gunebakıs.
“As long as Paul is in the penalty area, it’s a big advantage for us. The other players positioned around him can also contribute to the score.”
Mimaroglu also explained that his assist came from deliberately targeting the penalty area, where Onuachu’s presence can create opportunities for both the Nigerian and his teammates.
“Savic was also very well positioned. I wanted to send the ball into the penalty area. It didn’t matter who he met there. We are working on this after training as well. Hopefully, our goal contributions will continue throughout the season.”
Onuachu was unable to get on the scoresheet against Kasımpasa, but Mimaroglu’s comments says more than enough about the Nigerian striker’s expected role in Trabzonspor’s attack this season.
The former Southampton forward remains an important part of the club’s plans as they look to build on last season’s title challenge, with his aerial presence and ability to occupy defenders offering Trabzonspor another dimension in the final third.
Mimaroglu will also hope his understanding with Onuachu continues to develop as Trabzonspor look to build that title-winning chemistry within their squad this season.
