Super Eagles defender Felix Agu has taken another significant step in his recovery after returning to action for Werder Bremen in Saturday’s pre-season friendly win over VfL Bochum, Footynaija.com reports.
Agu featured for 45 minutes as head coach Daniel Thioune gradually increased his workload ahead of the new Bundesliga season. His involvement comes after overcoming a minor muscular issue suffered at the end of last season.
Although the injury proved to be relatively minor, it was another setback in what has been a frustrating spell for the versatile defender, whose 2025/2026 campaign was repeatedly disrupted by nagging injuries.

Agu’s troubles began in October 2025 when he suffered a serious syndesmosis ligament injury that required surgery, ruling him out for four months and forcing him to miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
After working his way back to fitness in February, the defender suffered another frustrating setback when he sustained an adductor muscle tear during a pre-match warm-up, delaying his return once again.
Having now completed a full half against Bochum, Agu appears to be edging closer to full match fitness ahead of the 2026/2027 campaign.

His inclusion in Werder Bremen’s pre-season training camp has reflected the coaching staff’s confidence in his progress, with the club carefully increasing his minutes after confirming he had recovered from the muscular complaint that troubled him at the close of last season.
For Agu, Saturday’s outing represents more than just another pre-season appearance. After enduring months of rehabilitation and repeated injury setbacks, the Nigeria international will now hope to put his fitness problems behind him and establish himself as a key figure for Bremen as they prepare for the new Bundesliga season.
