Honest Ahanor made a promising Crystal Palace debut as they beat Middlesbrough 3-0 at Selhurst Park to reach the next round of the Carabao Cup, Footynaija reports.
The Super Eagles-eligible centre-back was handed his first start after missing last weekend’s Premier League trip to Fulham.
Ahanor helped Palace keep a clean sheet, making nine clearances, two tackles and one interception. He also won two aerial duels and drew one foul.
Palace took control when Jørgen Strand Larsen headed Óscar Mingueza’s cross into the net in the 37th minute. Strand Larsen doubled the lead eight minutes after half-time with another header before Daichi Kamada completed the scoring in the 72nd minute.
The result sent Palace into the next round, while Ahanor’s solid display gave him an encouraging start to his time at the club.
The 18-year-old joined Palace on loan from Atalanta on deadline day, with a longer-term move to Chelsea planned for July 2027.
His debut will also be closely followed by Nigeria supporters as Ahanor remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite having two caps for Italy.
