Victor Osimhen has described Raphael Onyedika as Nigeria’s most underrated player at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Footynaija.com reports.

Osimhen praised the Club Brugge midfielder after the Super Eagles secured a 3–1 win over Uganda to reach the Round of 16.

Onyedika was the standout performer in Fes, scoring twice in the second half after Paul Onuachu had opened the scoring before the break. Both of Onyedika’s goals were set up by Samuel Chukwueze.

Osimhen insisted Onyedika’s influence has gone unnoticed for too long.

“Onyedika has been one of our best players and most of the time, he doesn’t get the hype he deserves,” said Osimhen as per Flashscore.

“He is really a talented player. For the kind of performance he put in against Uganda, I think he deserves to be in the spotlight.”

The Galatasaray striker also reflected on captaining Nigeria for the first time, having worn the armband in Wilfred Ndidi’s absence.

“It feels so good. For me, it is beautiful to try to lead the team,” he said, adding that the responsibility brought a stronger sense of belonging and authority on the pitch.

Looking ahead to the knockout phase, Osimhen showed no fear of potential opponents.

“I don’t care, anybody can come,” he said.

Despite closing in on Rashidi Yekini’s goalscoring record, Osimhen stressed that personal milestones are not his focus.

“To be honest, I never went to bed one day and thought about trying to equal the record or trying to surpass it.”

With Nigeria through to the last 16, Osimhen believes the Super Eagles are ready to push for a fourth AFCON title, while emphasising that goals can come from across the squad.
