Nigeria completed a flawless Africa Cup of Nations group stage with a commanding 3-1 victory over Uganda, Footynaija.com reports.

The win sees Nigeria finish top of Group C with maximum points and reinforce their status as one of the tournament’s most convincing sides so far.

Already assured of a place in the knockout rounds, Eric Chelle rang the changes but saw his team deliver another assured performance, blending control, patience and cutting edge at the Stade Foot Fès.

The Super Eagles’ dominance was not immediate, however, as Uganda began with urgency and intent, knowing only a win would keep their hopes alive.

The Cranes pressed high in the opening exchanges, with Travis Mutyaba influential in midfield and Rogers Mato posing a threat from wide areas. Nigeria initially lacked rhythm, but gradually imposed themselves, driven by Moses Simon’s direct running and a growing authority in central midfield.

The breakthrough came in the 28th minute and owed much to Nigeria’s composure. After squandering a clear chance moments earlier, Paul Onuachu redeemed himself by tapping home from close range after a calm, unselfish square pass from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. It was a goal that settled Nigeria and punctured Uganda’s early confidence.

Uganda’s task became steeper early in the second half when goalkeeper Jamal Salim was dismissed for handling outside his area as Victor Osimhen raced clear. The red card shifted the balance decisively and Nigeria moved swiftly to exploit their numerical advantage.

Raphael Onyedika doubled the lead on 62 minutes, timing his run perfectly to meet Samuel Chukwueze’s incisive pass before finishing with assurance. Five minutes later, the midfielder struck again, arriving late into the box to convert Chukwueze’s low cut-back and effectively end the contest.

Uganda refused to fold and were rewarded for their persistence when Mato produced a delicate chipped finish after being played through by Khalid Aucho, offering a brief moment of joy for their supporters. But Nigeria never looked in danger of losing control, managing the closing stages with maturity and keeping the ball intelligently.

Osimhen was withdrawn late to protect him ahead of the knockout rounds, as Chelle looked beyond the night’s work. The final whistle confirmed Nigeria’s perfect group-stage record, achieved for only the second time in their AFCON history.
