Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has thanked fans for their support and reassured them that she is doing okay after a painful ankle injury cut short her involvement in Nigeria’s 5-0 win over Comoros in the 2028 Olympic qualifiers, Footynaija.com reports.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward was forced off in the first half of Tuesday’s second-leg match at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne after a collision with a Comoros player. She received treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher, with Folashade Ijamilusi introduced in her place.
The incident left a worrying end to what became a successful night for Nigeria. The Super Falcons scored five goals to complete a 7-0 aggregate victory and advance to the third round of the African qualifying series, where they will face Morocco.
Ajibade’s condition, however, remained a major concern after the final whistle. Interim coach Augustine Eguavoen said the medical team had taken her to hospital for an MRI scan to establish the extent of the injury.
Ajibade thanks fans as treatment continues
In a statement released on Thursday, the captain said scans and medical consultations were still ongoing, adding that further information would be shared when available.
“At the moment, I am doing okay and my spirits are high,” Ajibade said.
She also expressed pride in leading the team and praised the unity, discipline and determination shown by her teammates as Nigeria began its campaign to reach the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Ajibade thanked her teammates, family, technical and medical staff, and supporters who had sent messages, prayers and kind words since the incident. She said her immediate focus was recovery and returning stronger for both club and country.
Ajibade was scheduled to undergo ankle surgery in France on Friday, October 16, following further medical assessment. The procedure and recovery period will be important in establishing when she can return to action.
