The Super Eagles have touched down in Polokwane, South Africa, as head coach Eric Chelle fine-tunes preparations for Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho on Friday, Footynaija.com reports.
The team set up camp at The Ranch Hotel on Monday, with players streaming in from their European and Middle Eastern clubs ahead of Tuesday’s first training session at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, the same venue for the Group C showdown.
Chelle faces a mounting headache in defence. Felix Agu, who was drafted in to cover the right flank following Bright Osayi-Samuel’s injury, has now been ruled out after sustaining a serious ankle problem while on duty for Werder Bremen.
The German club confirmed the full-back will be sidelined for several months. Meanwhile, first-choice right-back Ola Aina remains unavailable until December, prolonging a defensive crisis that leaves Chelle short of options.
Up front, though, Nigeria look menacing. Victor Osimhen is back among the goals after striking the winner against Liverpool in the Champions League, while Akor Adams continued his impressive rise in La Liga by scoring in Sevilla’s 4–1 demolition of Barcelona.
Nigeria, third in Group C with 11 points, have been handed a boost following CAF’s decision to dock South Africa three points for fielding an ineligible player.
The Super Eagles will clash with Lesotho in Polokwane on October 10 before tackling Benin’s Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo four days later.
